How we work

From first message to a live site, step by step

What happens after you get in touch, what I need from you, and how and when you pay. No surprises, and a written price before any work starts.

The five steps

Most projects follow the same path. The times below come from a recent fixed-price build, so treat them as a guide and not a promise.

  1. Chat

I do: Ask what the site has to do. We talk by email, WhatsApp or Signal, whichever you prefer.

You do: Tell me the goal and send the current site address, if there is one.

I reply within one working day.

  2. Quote

I do: Send a written price with the scope listed.

You do: Approve it, or ask questions.

In a recent build: call on one day, accepted two days later.

  3. Access and assets

I do: Ask only for what the job needs.

You do: Send hosting and admin access, your logo, and your content. Logins go through Signal, not email.

Allow one to two days. Hosting logins are the usual delay.

  4. Build

I do: Show a design mockup first for design work, then build the pages.

You do: Look at the mockup and tell me what to change.

In a recent build: mockup to approval took three days.

  5. Handover

I do: Launch, check every page on a phone, and hand over the logins.

You do: Do a final check.

In a recent build: live 11 days after the quote was accepted.

Where the design comes from

Before anything is built we settle where the look of the site comes from. There are four common starting points, and the right one depends on what you already have.

  • You already have a design. A Figma or Photoshop file from a designer is a good starting point. I build it as designed, and the written price covers exactly that.
  • You have a house style and some inspiration. Your logo, colors and fonts exist, or a basic site does, and you send me two or three sites you like. I turn that into a mockup for you to approve, then build it. This is how a recent build went.
  • You pick a ready-made theme. One of my themes, or a theme you bought, with your logo, colors and fonts applied. It is the fastest and cheapest route, and it suits a small site.
  • You start from nothing. We talk through colors, fonts and logo first, then continue as in the second option.

None of these is better in general. A full design in Figma or Photoshop gives the most control and costs the most time. A house style plus inspiration usually gets to a good site faster. A ready-made theme is right when speed and budget matter most.

What I need from you

The faster these arrive, the faster the work starts.

  • Admin access to your website, or hosting access if we are building a new one.
  • Your house style (logo, colors and fonts), if you have one, or two or three sites you like and what you like about them.
  • Your own text and photos, or a note that you want help with them.
  • For a WooCommerce shop: your product list, your payment provider account, and your shipping and tax rules.
  • One person who can say yes to decisions.

How pricing and billing work

Builds have fixed starting prices. Everything else is hourly, and I tell you the estimate before I start.

Kickstart

from €299

An existing theme with your logo, colors and fonts. One to three pages.

Standard

from €695

Your own block theme, a design mockup and two revision rounds.

Sage

from €999

A custom Sage theme with custom blocks, speed, security and SEO setup.

FSE

from €2,500

A full custom block theme with 20 to 30 patterns and three design rounds.

€65 per hour

Fixes, updates, speed work and anything else. You get an estimate first.

€95 per hour

Rush or emergency work only.

  • Fixed price means I carry the overrun on the agreed scope. Extra scope, such as more design rounds, is quoted separately before I do it.
  • I invoice per task or per small batch of work, and I send each invoice once, when the work closes.
  • Payment is due 14 days after the invoice date.
  • There are no retainers and no subscription packages. Hosting is separate and optional.

Working across time zones

I live in Jakarta, which is five to six hours ahead of the Netherlands depending on the time of year. I am Dutch, and I have been building WordPress sites since 2009.

In practice this means written messages cover most things, and a message sent during your working day gets an answer the same day or the next. You choose the channel: email, WhatsApp or Signal. When a live conversation helps, we book a Google Meet in the overlap, which is my afternoon and your morning. I do not do phone calls. Some clients prefer email only, and that works just as well.

One client came back after nine years. You can read how that went on the case studies page.

After launch

  • At handover you get a short walkthrough, every login, and a list of what was built.
  • If something breaks later, write to me. I give an estimate first, then fix it.
  • If you want someone to look after hosting, updates and backups, see managed WordPress hosting.

Frequently asked questions

  • Do I need to be technical? No. I ask for what I need in plain terms, and I explain decisions in plain terms. If something needs a technical choice, I recommend one and say why.
  • What if I do not like the design? For design work I show a mockup before anything is built. Two revision rounds are included on a Standard build. A third round is billed as an add-on, quoted before I start.
  • Do I need a design before we start? No. If you have a Figma or Photoshop file I build from it. If you do not, we start from your house style and a few sites you like, or from a ready-made theme. I tell you which fits your budget.
  • Can you work with my existing hosting? Usually yes. I need admin access to WordPress, and for a new build or a move I need hosting access too. If your host gives no shell access, I work through the control panel and FTP.
  • Who owns the site? You do. The content, the design and the accounts are yours. I hand over every login at the end.
  • What if I need changes after launch? Write to me. I give an estimate before I start, and billing is hourly at 65 euros or as a small fixed quote.
  • How do we stay in touch? Whichever way suits you: email, or a chat on WhatsApp or Signal. For a longer talk we book a Google Meet. Some clients only use email, and I am happy with that. I share nothing sensitive, such as logins, by email.
  • Why are you based in Jakarta? I live there. I am Dutch and have built WordPress sites since 2009. Written messages cover most of the day, and my afternoon overlaps your morning when a live conversation helps.
